Peter Francis George Levelle was a remarkable figure in the advertising industry both as an agency producer and then as a talented film director. Peter was recognised for his calm, inventive, and compassionate approach, leaving a legacy of some of the most humorous and imaginative commercials ever produced. Those who had the privilege of knowing him will forever cherish his legacy of kindness.

With a heart full of creativity and a life dedicated to looking after others, Peter Levelle left an indelible mark on the world of advertising and film. Born in Torquay, Devon, during the tumultuous days of the Blitz, Peter's early life was shaped by resilience and determination. Raised by his mother after his parents' early divorce, he excelled at Queen Elizabeth’s School in Crediton, earning a scholarship to study aeronautical engineering at Queen Mary College, London. However, his true calling lay elsewhere.

Peter embarked on his advertising career in 1964, starting humbly as a trainee at Charles Hobson & Grey Advertising. His talent and ambition quickly propelled him forward. By 1977, Peter was head of the TV Production Department at Collett Dickenson Pearce (CDP), widely regarded as the world's most creative advertising agency at the time.

As a film producer and director, Peter brought to life over 400 productions, working with renowned actors, celebrities, and everyday people. His projects were known for their technical excellence, humor, and profound storytelling. Notable works include the Vauxhall Astra Red Arrows, Hertz Car Rental with The Two Ronnies, and The Economist featuring Henry Kissinger.

Peter’s influence extended beyond his direct work. He co-founded the British Television Advertising Awards (BTAA) in 1976, serving as vice-chairman until 2000, and was a founder trustee of the Directors’ Guild of Great Britain. His contributions earned him numerous accolades, including multiple Gold awards from BTAA and international recognition at Cannes, Eurobest, and the USA Clios.

In his personal life, Peter was a devoted family man. He married his beloved wife Liz in 1980, and together they raised two sons, James, an adventure filmmaker, and Michael, an advertising film producer. King’s College School Wimbledon also held a special place in his heart, where he served as a governor, chairman of the Friends of KCS, and was later honored as an honorary fellow and president of the Arthur Wellesley Society.

Peter Levelle’s legacy is one of creativity, dedication, and a profound impact on the world of advertising and beyond. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working with him.
